ABC's "Invasion", Two Thumbs Up

By John Crawford

Invasion

September 23rd, 2005

Coming home from work Wednesday afternoon, I caught an ad on the radio for something they were calling Invasion.  As a big scifi fan, I don't spend much time watching what's on the big 3 networks, especially in prime time.  So I set my cable box to remind me at 10PM to change the channel.  The network posted a disclaimer upfront that depicted events were fictitious, since the main event was a hurricane hitting the Florida Keys.  One could see how that might hit a bit too close to home for some audiences.

The opening scenes are all too familiar to the current news, but the drama begins almost immediately.  Family conflict and the impending storm are very nicely twisted to set the stage for coming events.  I think this is going to be a big hit.  If not it will go into reruns on the SciFi Channel where the die hard scifi fans will want to know why this series didn't make it.  This is definitely a series I want to keep up on from week to week, and get some discussions going with others who watch it.
