Battlestar Galactica Season Two Finale:
"Pegasus" Reviewed

By John Crawford

September 24th, 2005

The season finale of BSG was AWESOME!  I was happy to see one my favorite actresses, Michelle Forbes, but she plays a very unlikable character.  The Pegasus seems to have been hiding for the past 2 years, while the rest of the fleet had to endure the Cylon attacks, food and supply shortages, and watching people they live and work with be killed.  The Pegasus crew is a different kind of military, one that is distasteful with it's rules and discipline, and one the Galactica crew is NOT accustomed to.  There is an immediate "stiffness" to their demeanor, as though they need a dose of reality to understand their dire situation.  There is something maybe that we have not been told yet, possibly they are Cylons, or there is some darker reason why they have survived.  They do not appear to have been through much suffering, or battles.  Of course, it wouldn't make for great television if the highest ranking people did not bump heads.  Commander Adama was understood to be the senior ranking fleet person to survive, and was getting his orders and advise directly from the President.  It would have been even more of a twist has a more senior political member been on the Pegasus, that would have really thrown things out the window.  This would have actually made sense since President Roslin was told she have about a month to live.  However, I would guess that Mary McDonnell is not leaving the show anytime soon.

As we have come to know, Commander Adama holds his ground with his superior officer.  The speedy court-martial  without any representation or commanding officers presence sends Adama to the breaking point.  There may be subtle clues as to some history between Commander Adama and Admiral Cain.  From the moment he hears her voice there is a tension in Adama's face, maybe he has suspicions about where they've been, or if they are really human.  In any case, there is sure to be quite a confrontation brewing for the season three opener.  We can assume this much, this is television so the regulars stay and the guests move on.  Our two crewman will be rescued or otherwise acquitted, the Pegasus and her crew will may or may not stay around.  But their ways will change because Commander Adama will win in the end.  Besides, with friends like Admiral Cain, who needs the Cylons!
